On both sides of the former iron curtain, some aggressive wording and images are back. Does it mean a new Cold War is threatening us? What are the roots of the current Russian anger towards Western countries? Why do local and International media so much differently depict Russia? What are the main drivers of the Russian economy? What really happens at the border between Russia and Ukraine?
Our three experts will answer these questions from an economical, a geopolitical and a military point of view:
• Bernard Lukey, Executive Director of Yandex, Europe AG. Prior to Yandex, Bernard served for 6 years as CEO of one of the Russia’s largest online stores, OZON.ru, based in Moscow.
• Eric Hoesli, Professor at the EPFL and at the University of Geneva, both Universities have appointed him in 2014 for setting up a new joint program of Russian Studies. Previously he spent more than thirty years as journalist, founder & chief editor of Le Temps and managing editor in major Swiss media.
• Flavien Schaller, Chief Observer of the OSCE Mission (Organization for security and Cooperation in Europe) at the Ukrainian-Russian border. As a Colonel of the Swiss Army, he was the first Swiss officer appointed to attend the General Staff Academy of the Armed Forces in Russia.
Please note that the conference of Bernard Lukey and Flavien Schaller will be in English and that of Eric Hoesli will be in French. The panel presentation will be followed by a Q&A session in English.
