According to Statistics Canada, the number of self-employed in Alberta jumped by 16,700 in December from the previous month. For many, the journey from employee to business owner can be a tricky one.
Entrepreneurs are vulnerable, especially in the early stages of launching their business and in the current economic environment. But there are potential advantages to starting a business during tough times: talented people are more available, some costs of doing business are reduced, and customers in the energy industry are motivated to identify cost savings and improve production efficiencies.
