Development Project Manager

The Job’s mission

The Development Project Manager is a member of the Development and Alumni Relations team, providing operational, project and communications support to the Chief Development Officer (CDO). This position will manage a variety of diverse projects within a portfolio as they relate to the delivery of IMD fundraising priorities.

Primarily responsible for collating, writing, and editing donor-centric communication. He/she will produce compelling proposals for high net worth individuals and family foundations, donor reports and updates. S/he will work closely with members of the faculty and across IMD functional disciplines to ensure that all donor communications contain the highest-quality, most accurate, most up-to-date compelling content.

S/he will also work closely with Finance Department and the Office of the Dean of Faculty and  R&D to ensure that all research proposals and reports contain timely, accurate information on donation expenditures The role holder will build, maintain and manage a project plan which consolidates and sequences all of the various components of IMD fundraising activities

Key activities & accountabilities

  • Provide a wide range of project management support to the CDO, and the team.
  • Write donor-centric communications to support development activities and goals, with a focus on proposals and reports but also including acknowledgement updates, newsletter/annual report articles, cultivation letters, and collateral material.
  • Gather content, assimilate it, and turn it into compelling narrative / gift opportunities and case for support materials.
  • Co-ordinate and manage academic partners involvement and input in the planning process for fundraising priorities.
  • Schedule and organize individual donor visits to the Institution, including agenda, background materials and visit logistics.
  • Collaborate with the Communications team to share content and ensure consistency of messaging and presentation via communication streams and platforms.
  • Collaborate with the Finance team to secure accurate donation expense information for reporting compliance and tracking.
  • Utilize data platform to track and report on proposal/report deadlines and requests for information from the wider Institution.
  • Help to build a knowledge management system so that written materials and content is shared and accessible to the wider Institution
  • Draft materials for internal business requirements and reporting purposes.
  • Accompanie the CDO at high level meetings with senior stakeholders, and partners at IMD. Ensure that agreements and actions are documented, included in the project plan of activities and communicated to relevant parties.
  • Deliver projects designed to strengthen processes, systems and working practices within related to delivery of our fundraising operations, to achieve improved effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly and ad hoc reports, data analyses and presentations on fundraising activities and performance.
  • Build, maintain and manage a project plan that will track progress-to-goal, project deliverables and milestones ensuring coordination of all projects.

Ideal profile

  • Graduate or post-graduate degree with interest or experience in fundraising or related field.
  • Superlative writing and editing skills and experience collaborating with designers to produce high quality promotional and informational materials.
  • Significant project management experience (min. 3 years) and coordinating multiple projects at the same time.
  • Wide-ranging understanding and experience of current communication techniques.
  • Experience writing successful grant proposals and compelling reports.
  • Experience of proposal writing or evidence of excellent writing skills in the English language.
  • Ability to create and manage time-intensive writing processes and prioritize multiple deadlines.
  • Experience of working in a team environment.
  • Professional demeanour that will engender the respect from the variety of internal and external stakeholders with whom he/she will have contact.
  • Understanding of the confidential nature of information and ability to deal with information in a discreet and professional manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and confidence to enable them to deal with people at every level and to be able to delegate tasks effectively.
  • Able to juggle/distil streams of information from many sources into clear and concise briefings for consideration by senior staff/fundraisers.
  • Confident and proactive with the ability to work using own initiative and judgement.
  • Ability to multitask and progress a variety of key tasks in parallel, monitor progress, judging when to chase progress as necessary.
  • Thorough understanding, interest and empathy for academic affairs and culture and the workings of the Institution.
  • Wide-ranging understanding and experience of current communication techniques.
  • Experience of working to strict deadlines and in using traditional and new media to develop successful communications.
  • English mother tongue, any other language a plus.
  • Strong computer skills, including fluency in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office.
  • Attention to detail and highly creative approach.
