Abstract
Organizations have the potential to succeed when they make decisions based on a thorough understanding of their business and competitive environment. At IMD we believe that executives should possess the skills and depth needed to read an industry and uncover its trends. Executives must have a broad collection of mental models to envision what the future will bring to their industry and that of their customers and suppliers.

For this reason, industry analysis and research into industrial trends is a core element of the IMD MBA program. During the MBA, students have the opportunity to work in teams on an International Consulting Project (ICP) supported by an IMD faculty member. The first stage of this project includes an in-depth industry analysis conducted with publicly available data.

In this book we provide you with an opportunity to examine the summary of their analyses, including specific industrial trends and industry scenarios, and a point of view on where these industries are heading. In addition, each team has looked at the major challenges and opportunities in the assigned industry and the resulting implications for managers.

Our view is that you can use this book to learn about your own industry, related industries or the industries of your customers or your suppliers, In addition, you can use this synthesis to learn about industrial mega-trends which are shaping our business world.
