The research fellow position is a post-doc position. RFs work with Faculty on:

  • The design and conduct of research projects, involving rigorous data gathering and analysis of the material as well as writing of A-journal articles
  • Projects with the aim to publish in well-regarded academic and managerial journals as well as managerial books

Willem Smit, PhD

After obtaining his PhD from RSM Erasmus University (The Netherlands) on the topic "Information Sharing in Marketing Channels", Willem joined the research team at IMD. His expertise has broadened from a specialization on "market information sharing" to many other usages of market intelligence by firms in their strategy-making. On his research agenda covering good, innovative, and useless usages of market intelligence, he collaborates with Stuart Read, Martin Koschat and Sean Meehan.

Smit Willem

Karsten Jonsen, M.Sc, MBA, PhD

Karsten Jonsen is a Research Fellow in Organizational Behavior. Before coming to IMD in 2002, he held European management positions in the IT-industry. Karsten earned his M.Sc. in Economics from Copenhagen, MBA from ESCP-EAP in Paris, France and Ph.D. from University of Geneva. His research interests and publications cover a variety of issues in cross-cultural business including team performance, virtual teams, stereotyping, globalization, career mobility, cross-cultural communication, gender and workforce diversity. Karsten collaborates with Martha Maznevski, Ben Bryant, John Weeks and Maury Peiperl (all IMD), Karen Jehn (University of Leiden), Susan C. Schneider (University of Geneva) and Jeanine Prime (Catalyst).

Jonsen Karsten

Jean-Louis Barsoux, PhD

After obtaining his PhD from Loughborough University (UK), Jean-Louis worked as a researcher at Oxford University and later INSEAD, specializing in organizational behavior, with a particular focus on cross-cultural issues and boss-subordinate relations. His research interests have since broadened to include the topics of leadership and change management. Jean-Louis has co-authored several books on these topics including: The Set-Up-To-Fail Syndrome with Jean-François Manzoni, Managing Across Cultures with Susan Schneider and The Global Challenge with Paul Evans and Vlado Pucik. He also collaborated with Preston Bottger on his recent book Leading the Top Team.
