EFFECTIVENESS OF SUSTAINABILITY PARTNERSHIPS

CSM's most recent project focused on four partnership approaches - New business development, best practices, quasi-regulation and advocacy

Social and environmental issues can be very complex and overwhelming for managers. A partnership with corporate stakeholders seems like an obvious solution. But what type of partnership is appropriate, what are the pitfalls and how can they be overcome? The CSM team of researchers used the experiences of a number of experts, NGOs and governmental bodies to find the answers.

Four key areas were studied:

  • Human Rights/Corruption
  • Public Health
  • Climate Protection
  • Sustainable Food

Five partnerships within each sector were identified and questioned and some 160 interviews performed. Read the executive summary attached to get an insight.

Extract from the book – executive summary

"Nowhere has the need for sustainability partnerships been more keenly felt than in the complex area of climate change. This is simply because no one entity can "go it on their own" and find a solution to the serious and urgent dilemmas around this sustainability issue without buy-in from other partners. That is why this book, a guide for managers involved in sustainability partnerships, is so invaluable. It helps to "cut corners" in a positive way and avoid partnerships losing valuable time required to actually resolve these urgent issues."
