IMD International

A worldwide network

Deciding where to do your MBA is mostly a business decision, but not entirely. It will take up at least a year of your life and there are important factors to consider, particularly if you bring along your family. A small, high-caliber group of international and diverse people, the MBA community includes our 90 participants and their families, our experienced Faculty and alumni from past MBA and executive programs.

The quality of our participants is the key factor in the success and reputation of the IMD MBA. They are a small group of highly motivated, international people with significant achievements to their credit.

In a class of only 90, there is simply no place to hide - Faculty and staff know you as an individual, not just a face in an auditorium.

The MBA Class of 2013: 45 different nationalities & over 600 years work experience

  • Participants come from all over the world
  • Over 90% have lived/worked outside their home country
  • The majority have 4 - 10 years of work experience
  • Participants come from a wide range of work sectors
  • See more details on our Overview of the class

IMD MBA partners
If you are one of the many MBAs to come to Lausanne with your partner, you can be reassured that IMD makes their year as rewarding as possible too. We have set up a Partner Integration Program which helps ease the transition to Lausanne. Activities are organized to create an active social network while also providing different opportunities for self-reflection and personal growth.
Partners are invited to share resources with each other, support each other and to enjoy their year in Switzerland to its fullest!

Renting apartments in the Lausanne area
While IMD has no on-campus accommodation, we work closely with you to smooth your relocation to Lausanne. Once you are accepted into the program, we give you access to an online list of apartments, a relocation agency and an online information source, “Living in Lausanne”. If you decide to rent an apartment not featured through the school, you must arrange this independently.

Medical and Accident Insurance
In accordance to the Swiss Federal Law, every person living or studying in Switzerland for more than three months must be covered for health insurance with a Swiss insurance company.

Special agreements on medical coverage exist between Switzerland and EU/EFTA member countries and, in some cases, North American insurance coverage meets the Swiss requirements. In these cases a special exemption must be requested.

IMD provides accepted candidates with the contact details of an insurance agent to assist you with all insurance matters.

Most students live within walking distance of IMD, however as a holder of a residence permit (issued after arrival by the local authorities) you can register a car with Swiss license plates in Lausanne.

Foreign license plates may be used for one year as long as your own auto insurance covers you in Switzerland.

Switzerland has a convenient and reliable public transport system and you can buy a travel pass to get discounts on Swiss trains, buses and boat trips.
