MBA COMMUNITYA worldwide networkDeciding where to do your MBA is mostly a business decision, but not entirely. It will take up at least a year of your life and there are important factors to consider, particularly if you bring along your family. “The 30 or so partners who spent most of their time at IMD were a sparky, fun group of like-minded individuals willing and able to share the experience, offer support and seek it where necessary.”
Eliz O'Halloran, Irish, MBA Partner 2004 |
The IMD MBA Faculty
Unique to IMD is a Faculty to participant ratio of 1:3.

As a result, the Faculty contribution to the MBA:
Jim Ellert "The faculty's ability to wear many hats here - mentor, teacher, project advisor - is what I really value. I genuinely enjoy teaching this program because I get to know the people I'm teaching." |

Lausanne
The city and surrounding region is beautiful and international, with a low crime rate, good public transport and plenty of cultural activities. Discover more on their website: Lausanne.ch
Renting apartments in the Lausanne area
While IMD has no on-campus accommodation, we work closely with you to smooth your relocation to Lausanne. Once you are accepted into the program, we give you access to an online list of apartments, a relocation agency and an online information source, “Living in Lausanne”. If you decide to rent an apartment not featured through the school, you must arrange this independently.
Medical and Accident Insurance
In accordance to the Swiss Federal Law, every person living or studying in Switzerland for more than three months must be covered for health insurance with a Swiss insurance company.
Special agreements on medical coverage exist between Switzerland and EU/EFTA member countries and, in some cases, North American insurance coverage meets the Swiss requirements. In these cases a special exemption must be requested.
IMD provides accepted candidates with the contact details of an insurance agent to assist you with all insurance matters.
Transport
Most students live within walking distance of IMD, however as a holder of a residence permit (issued after arrival by the local authorities) you can register a car with Swiss license plates in Lausanne.
Foreign license plates may be used for one year as long as your own auto insurance covers you in Switzerland.
Switzerland has a convenient and reliable public transport system and you can buy a travel pass to get discounts on Swiss trains, buses and boat trips.

“IMD has referrals for banking, insurance, and other essentials. Without returning to Lausanne, I secured all my insurance (health, renters and liability) and have an apartment 5 minutes from campus. Yes, selling our home and calling the movers was hard, but IMD’s support makes the transition as easy as possible.”
Ken Schultz, American, MBA 2006 |
