Discovery Expeditions![]() Discovery ExpeditionsLearn from experience You'll immerse yourselves in three centers of action: India (Mumbai), North America (Silicon Valley), and China (Shanghai). Each has its own distinct business climate, culture and socio-economic challenges. The opportunity to explore each, and then compare and contrast, is a tremendous learning vehicle. This provides you with a rich context for new ideas for your company and career. You will not just 'tour' these 3 regions; you will have assignments that require you to truly understand how each region works, and why it is successful- or not. These expeditions will be a total immersion, 'learning-by-doing' experiences. You'll have discussions with a wide range of people, from politicians and experts, to the 'man in the street'. The days are long, the learning is non-stop. We estimate that the class as a whole meets over 900 people during the course of our 3 Discovery Expeditions. The Discovery Expeditions will also be lessons in how to investigate new trends and ideas, and how to evaluate their relevance for you and your company. That's valuable today because of the knowledge it gives you about emerging business ideas. And it's valuable into the future as you're faced with new business models, technologies, and evolving business conditions. Find out more about the Discovery Expeditions India We go to India to understand firsthand the importance of this burgeoning economy to the rest of the world from a geopolitical, economic, cultural and environmental standpoint. India is a global power in the making, if it manages to achieve anywhere near its full potential over the next few years. The country is also a place of stark contrasts, often positioned side by side: abject poverty next to western luxury and sophistication; global corporations (both Indian and foreign) next to grass roots entrepreneurship. During our 10 days in India, we expose our EMBAs to as many of these contrasts as possible, meeting an array of people from all walks of life - advertising gurus, philanthropists, big business moguls, slum dwellers, serial entrepreneurs, eminent Indian philosophers, not to mention daily interactions with the Mumbaikars we meet on the street. Shanghai The Chinese market is full of energy, drive and risks. What are the best ways to access this market? How will China's impact on the rest of the world change as its massive state-owned sector continues to privatize? Is anyone making money here today? Where are the best opportunities? Together with people who know China, we'll learn by visiting companies, talking with Communist Party officials, holding debates and discussions with business leaders, investigating on our own, and working with those who live and breathe Shanghai on a daily basis. Silicon Valley How do Silicon Valley companies move from idea to startup, through rapid growth to established entity, and then renew themselves repeatedly? And do it faster than anywhere else on earth? We'll meet and work with the people that make things happen at every stage of the 'idea-to-wealth' path. We'll put ourselves into the shoes of entrepreneurs trying to change the world and make a lot of money at the same time. We'll talk and work with startups and big company executives, as well as venture capitalists, headhunters, lawyers and academics.
