IMD MBA team first out of over 12,000 in global strategy competition

A team of three of this year's IMD MBA participants - Stephane Doutriaux (French / Canadian / American), Vincent Borel (Swiss) and Alexander Manolov (Bulgarian) - has won the 2007 L’Oréal e-Strat Challenge.

The L' Oréal event is the largest MBA strategy competition in the world, with over 12’400 MBA teams competing this year. This six-month effort by the IMD team, which began three months before even arriving at IMD, was a grueling strategic marketing competitive simulation exercise taking place in the cosmetic industry, followed by extensive business plan presentations.

Working over the Internet from their three home countries, they built a virtual cosmetics company and ran it successfully over the next five months. “We hadn’t even met, but started cooperating through Skype after being accepted at IMD,” says Vincent. “Working across time zones was an additional challenge.”
