![]() | The Idea Hunter by Professor Bill Fisher (OWP 2011) Welcome to the Knowledge Era, where we're all going to be strategically smarter, more innovative and moving up the value-chain - presumably all together! Of course, this is non-sensical! In fact, very few of our organizations will have the foresight and inspiration to make the bold moves and take the big chances. Only the wisest will survive and prosper, and those who do, will do it because they are better in the way that they work with ideas. So, how good are you at spotting the next new idea? At knowing who to follow when it comes to the next new trend? At realizing when it's time to abandon the old ways of working? What exercises are you doing to be able to lead with new ideas; and chart new futures? This session considers lessons learned from a number of extremely successful "Idea Hunters" as they go about the search for good new ideas and then putting them into play so that they change markets, organizations and careers. » Watch video |
![]() | From Breakdown to Breakthrough - A Competitiveness Outlook for 2011, and Beyond by Professor Stéphane Garelli (OWP 2011) The current economic drama seems to be never ending. We muddled through a financial crisis (2008), an economic crisis (2009), a social crisis (2010) and now we confront a currency crisis (2011). Where will it stop? Shall we see another major breakdown in the financial markets, this time triggered by government debt? Will the saviors of yesterday become the victims of tomorrow? The world economy has never been so desynchronized: From recession to overheating, from deflation to inflation, anything goes! Meanwhile, the emerging markets continue to create an economic block of their own, richer and more self-sufficient. Is this a new stage in the world economy ? Globalization 2.0? How can companies exploit these new opportunities? These are the questions and issues addressed in this OWP evening session. » Watch video |
![]() | Leading in a Complex World: Simplify and Amplify by Professor Martha Maznevski (OWP 2011) Today's business environment is more complex than any before, and that complexity shows no signs of decreasing. Traditionally, leaders respond to complexity by trying to control it and simplify it - a Herculean approach that is less and less effective. Leaders must learn to embrace the complexity, to adapt to it and even to find opportunities by amplifying it. In this session, we look at organizational solutions for this new reality and implications for your own leadership style. » Watch video |
![]() | The Next Frontier of Intelligence by Professor Michael Wade (OWP 2011) The man (or woman) and the computer have formed one of the most powerful partnerships of all time. This partnership has helped us to learn more things, more quickly, than ever before. It has helped us to create new insights and disseminate them to all corners of the globe. Most people would agree that computers have made us more productive, if not more effective. Yet, are we really taking advantage of the power of computers at a collective level? Certainly, people have intelligence. At the same time, computers have intelligence (although arguably of a different type). In this session, we argue that while we have been successful at combining human intelligence and computer intelligence at an individual level, we have only just begun to scratch the surface when it comes to combining the two intelligences at scale. Many examples of Web 2.0 technologies, such as Facebook and Wikipedia, that are supposed to show the power of collaboration, really just leverage human intelligence, not computer intelligence. Other technologies, like cloud and grid computing take advantage of computer intelligence, but have very little to do with people. This session challenges participants to come up with examples of the next frontier of intelligence, where the intelligence of computers and people are combined at scale. » Watch video |
