Testimonials of Past Participants

IMD sells an advanced strategy program - which it certainly is - but it goes far beyond that by integrating the personal development emphasis. IMD doesn't shy away from the personal dimension but rather is dedicated to these discussions with participants. This is the key differentiator. If I had to summarize Advanced Strategic Management, it is giving us the capabilities to be strategic teachers as well as true leaders. To be strategic you have to be a leader and to be a leader you have to be a whole person. Linking those together is very critical. Denise Beachy President | Hemlock Semiconductor Group | USA

ASM is a life-changing experience. You learn to look at things through different lenses, you learn to unlearn, and you connect the dots. Conversations with participants from a wide range of industries nurtured out-of-the-box thinking and generated new ideas for disruptive innovations from within. Alexander Koloshenko President & CEO | Zao Toyota Bank | Russia
Get ready for an intense, but highly rewarding personal learning journey! You arrive trailing the baggage of a tough personal business challenge. But then 3 weeks later - and thanks to the learning tools, the teaching and, most importantly, the support of your fellow participants and Faculty - you leave with new clarity and a fresh purpose - ready to drive change. James Whittingham Head of Chocolate Business Unit | Nestlé Nespresso SA | Switzerland
A group is just a group with the same goal or theme. A tribe comes together around the same core beliefs, mindsets and speaks the same language. For us at Aramex, the "Ouchy tribe" formed during IMD's Advanced Strategic Management program. The experience forced us to open up, trust each other and come together as a tribe. Mohammed Alkhas CEO GCC Aramex | United Arab Emirates (Mohammed participated in ASM with several other senior colleagues from Aramex)

You are moving into a significant leadership position and are facing the challenge of developing and executing strategies in complex environments. You must build a team and manage internal and external relationships so that your organization can create value and deliver results. When trying to achieve all of these things together - chances are you will quickly feel overwhelmed, despite your best intentions.

Advanced Strategic Management (ASM) will help you build the confidence and capabilities you need to respond to such situations.

Structure your thinking to address strategic challenges

As a leader, it is essential that you learn to structure your thinking - by identifying patterns or connections, and by tackling key underlying issues - a skill you can apply regardless of the specific challenge you are facing. Learning not just what to think of, but how to think when developing an action plan, will also help you pick up "good execution habits" - that will enable you to enhance your personal impact and meet the challenges you have set for yourself and your team.

Get ready for execution: gain real-world experience and a global perspective

The program is built around addressing business challenges that are critical to you - and ensuring you can "get the job done" once back at work. Throughout the program, you will be challenged by Faculty and by your peers - a diverse group of executives from across industries and geographies - providing you with the global perspective and wealth of experience you need to address your particular business challenge.

Week 1 - Broadening perspectives

Immerse yourself in global trends

This first week takes you straight out of the office environment by taking a bird's eye view of what is going on in the world. You learn to think outside the box - looking at things from a completely different perspective. In particular, we explore discontinuous changes in your market environment to better understand how your customers and competitors are likely to behave under radically changing circumstances.

Week 2 - Clarifying alternatives

Reflect on your challenge and how you are going to operate change

The second week is about connecting what you have learned so far, with your personal context and strategic challenge. You learn to recognize patterns, clarify your ideas and get input from your colleagues. We get away from the classroom for a few days and take you to the Swiss Alps to reflect on your challenge and review your approach to leadership.

Week 3 - Focusing choices

Pull the strings together and lay out a plan for execution

During the third and final week, you consolidate and integrate everything you have learned by developing a solid plan for execution - so you are ready to take action once you get back to work. Because you won't be executing your plan alone, you will also explore how to make your plan come true by creating a powerful communication strategy, to convey your ideas to your teams so they are motivated and know what to do.

Our Faculty

Our Faculty members are recognized world authorities in their fields. Dividing their time between teaching, research and working with international companies, they remain on top of the latest management trends. You can expect timely, innovative learning activities, materials and content in all IMD programs.
