Transitions into new roles are the most challenging times in the professional lives of leaders. Whether you have been promoted, joined a new organization or a making an international move, the actions you take during your first few months in a new role will largely determine whether you succeed or fail… and failure in a new assignment can spell the end of a promising career. But making a successful transition is about more than just avoiding failure; it’s also about accelerating yourself and your team, even as you lead change in your organization. In this Discovery Event, Professor Michael Watkins will explore what it takes to speed up individual transitions and organizational transformations. The stream will draw upon the findings of Professor Watkins’s new research, as chronicled in 10th Anniversary Edition of The First 90 Days published in 2013.

During this event you will learn how to:
• Speed up your learning – Figure out what you most need to learn to be effective in a new role – operationally, culturally, and politically – as well as identify who best to learning from, and how to speed up the process.
• Create alliances – Understand the political landscape to identify key stakeholders and influence networks, then create strategies to build supportive alliances.
• Build your teams – Assess the team you inherited, then figure out how to restructure the team and align it to achieve superior performance.
• Lead change – Identify the type of change you need to lead and craft a strategy for creating momentum, as well as understand your strengths and weaknesses as a leader of change.
• Accelerate everyone – Understanding the impact of transitions on organizations, diagnosing how transitions get supported and building “enterprise transition architectures”
