Some of the world’s foremost global companies are attempting to achieve these objectives, while enhancing business value and creating shared value for all stakeholders. Unilever is one of them. Its ambitions of doubling growth while halving environmental footprint and contributing to the well-being of one billion people by 2020 are formidable "stretch goals". IMD’s CSL Platform is tracking the progress the company is making.

Firmenich, the Swiss based flavor and fragrance company, is securing supply of a rare commodity for its products against all odds by overcoming significant social and environmental challenges and working in value-added partnerships.

We will turn this into a “value chain” discussion of relevance for all industries. What are the ways and means of embedding ambitious strategies that take account of the complex environmental and social realities of today and tomorrow? Does the setting of "Stretch Goals" make a difference?
