The Fight for Future Growth - Challenging Paradigms and Mindsets
Overview On 13 October 2016, IMD Professors Thomas Malnight and Howard Yu will lead an interactive workshop on the challenges of high growth in the future. It is a great opportunity not only to hear some of the latest research in this elusive field but also to discuss and soundboard your own ideas with other top executives. Building on the 3R's (Rethink, Redefine, Reshape) research from a few years ago, the current project looks at high growth companies from around the world, investigating four lenses that shape and influence their high growth strategies:

» Changing the competitive arena (from industries to ecosystems)
» Changing mindset (from inside-out to outside-in thinking)
» Changing views of change (from sustaining to continuous disruptive innovation)
» Changing motivation (bringing purpose to the center)

Collectively these lenses develop a range of strategic options (or ladders) that provide the basis for identifying future high growth opportunities. Pursuing these opportunities challenges firms, and their leaders, to shift their organizational center of gravity away from traditional strategies that are lowering growth opportunities and holding firms back in an increasingly dynamic and fast-changing environment.

The session will start with a brief presentation of key frameworks and findings, followed by an interactive part to discuss application of concepts with peers. Professor Tom Malnight and Howard Yu will conclude by highlighting some key remarks from the discussions and provide some hands on tips on how to now take things forward.
