|Press freedom & the transparency of information; Do not take them for granted|
Together with The Evian Group, we have the privilege of offering you an interesting evening at IMD on April 30th at 18:30.
In Switzerland we take freedom of the press for granted. We typically view transparency of information as something positive, practically a right. We look askance at countries where journalists are persecuted or the general population is not permitted access to everything they want to know, and many question who should own the content that is so easily available to us. Some would argue that the very richness of information available to us today creates a poverty of reflection, debate and original thought and that this freedom is not always exercised in a responsible manner, but there is no doubt that press freedom is a hallmark of modernity and a common aspiration around the world.
Please join IMD and the Evian Group@IMD on the evening of April 30th as we celebrate World Press Freedom Day with Prof. Lucy Dalglish, Dean of the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland. Based on her real world experience, Prof. Dalglish will provide us with an overview of press freedom in the U.S., and then follow with insights on other countries. Time-permitting, she will also dive into the question of content ownership and what it means for media companies.
