|Cultural Reinvention at Haier|
On December 11th the Evian Group and IMD will host Ruimin Zhang, CEO of the Chinese firm Haier, which has vaulted from near-bankruptcy to challenge Bosch, Siemens and Whirlpool for global supremacy in appliances.
Mr. Zhang was Chinese businessman of the year in 2001 and in 2012 Fortune named him to their "Executive Dream Team" as chief strategist. He is one of the most respected businessmen in the world today. From Fortune: "Mr. Zhang built the old Qingdao Refrigerator Factory from a failing maker of poor products into the world's largest appliance company, with $23 billion in revenue. He did it through unconventional but deft strategic moves: Instead of doing low-cost manufacturing for Western rivals, he decided to build Haier's brand; rather than copy other companies, he opened 10 R&D centers to develop Haier's own technology. Having conquered many global markets (and the dorm-fridge business), Zhang, 63, is now targeting Europe. This is a strategist you want on your team -- and not on your opponent's."
This event, to be held at IMD in Lausanne on December 11th at 18:30, will have simultaneous translation into English.
