| Text | IMD, a leading global business school based in Switzerland, and Today Makes Tomorrow (TMT) CEO Nobu Su are pleased to announce the establishment of an endowed chair that will focus research on the Asian region. The chair, entitled the “Nobu Su Professor of Global Leadership”, will finance the salary of a professor and the additional research. Professor Katherine Xin has been named as the first holder of the chair. Mr. Su is an IMD alumnus. Since completing his MBA in 1982, the Asian native has established himself as one of the top executives in the shipping industry. Under Mr. Su’s guidance as CEO, TMT has grown into a global leader in shipping both from a financial and environmental perspective. A young, innovative and visionary leader, Mr. Su has used his company’s abbreviation to emphasize their focus on the future. As part of the endowed chair, Mr. Su intends to focus research on how Asian companies and leaders can utilize creative methods to be more integrated in the global economy. During a recent visit to the IMD campus in Lausanne, Mr. Su spoke about his reasons for endowing the Chair and his vision for its development: “My first experience at IMD more than 25 years ago first alerted me to the importance of international cooperation. Europe was getting its act together as a powerful economic unit and IMD was a pioneer in promoting the development of executives to understand the challenges of European and, by extension, global leadership. “This is why I am so pleased about the establishment of this Chair and to have Professor Xin as its first holder. Being Chinese herself, she fully understands the need for creativity and leadership in business in our part of the world. In China and elsewhere in the region, many business executives need to develop these skills and understand other cultures and ways of working. IMD is the logical place to do it as ‘the global meeting place.’” Professor Xin has been a professor at IMD since 2006. A native of mainland China, Professor Xin has been instrumental in carrying out research and projects throughout the world. She leads the IMD China Research Center based in Lausanne, which opened in 2006 to provide cutting-edge insights on how to operate in China and to understand Chinese companies. In addition, Professor Xin is a consultant and workshop leader and has undertaken assignments for a number of leading international companies and for government agencies in the United States, Hong Kong and Chinese mainland. “It is an honor to be selected as the holder of the chaired professorship that Mr. Nobu Su has generously endowed,” stated Professor Xin. “I am looking forward to conducting research in the context of the chair that looks at how companies in Asia, especially in the greater China region, can become more global in outlook while also examining how international companies can better leverage the emergence of Asia.” “Since graduating from IMD, Mr. Nobu Su has embarked on a remarkable career in the shipping industry and we are proud that he is the first IMD Asian alumnus to endow a chair,” said IMD President Peter Lorange. “By partnering with us, Mr. Su will be contributing towards top level executive education and cutting-edge research so that others can potentially reap similar success.” About TMT - TMT is a global leader in shipping both from a financial and environmental-friendly perspective. This is exemplified by special commitments to clean energy (LNG) and innovation expertise to upgrade traditional shipping engineering. We strongly feel that decisions made today lay the foundations of our world tomorrow, which is symbolic in our corporate name. TMT was established in 1958 by Mr. Ching Wun Su and appropriately named Taiwan Maritime Transportation, which bears the same TMT acronym as the company’s current name. TMT continues to leverage its Asian roots, industry expertise and fifty years of shipping experience to expand its presence globally. Today, in an increasingly competitive environment, TMT strives to differentiate itself not only on commercial competitiveness, but also by providing its clients with value-added capabilities and a credo that places great importance on customer satisfaction, not only on new ideas but also innovation to improve ship engineering and logistics. Indeed, we pride ourselves on a vision of creating fuel efficient and environmentally friendly ships that we hope will make the oceans a little cleaner. Over the past few years, TMT has expanded its shipping operations from bulk, cement and car carriers to encompass VLCC carrier and LNG carrier subsidiaries as well. In 2006, TMT introduced the world's first ice-classed (ICE-IC) large LNG vessel, once again surprising the market with its ingenuity. Also, TMT is going to build the first and deepest drill ship in the world (12,000 feet). More information at www.tmtship.com. |
