| Text | Europe’s leading business school, IMD, has launched a women-participant-only strategic leadership program. The program will help talented female executives to develop their skills, gain confidence, build a network and move forward in their careers. So overdue is this type of development in senior management education that 10 women executives have already signed up before the program has been publicized. Program Objectives The first objective of the program is to build leading-edge strategy and leadership skills. Professor Martha Maznevski--Program Director--comments: “One of the reasons women are promoted less frequently is lack of professional development. Development increases both skills and confidence levels but additionally, participation in a high-level management program increases visibility in the organization.” The second objective is to build an international network. Martha Maznevski: “The network will help the executives to build the confidence to take risks and move their career forward. Courage often comes from simply knowing that there are others in the same position; role models, whether they are peers or mentors.” Creating long-standing alumni and partnership networks among program participants has always been one of IMD’s great strengths. Supporting Companies’ efforts to promote more women into leading positions Members of IMD’s advisory board of senior HR executives from the likes of Shell, Tetrapak, Nestlé, Hewlett Packard, Unilever, Daimler Chrysler, Novartis and many others provided invaluable input to the design of the program. They see the program as a vital part of a larger company diversity effort. One of them commented: “It is an important new course that will be well received by our management team and by the large number of talented female executives in our company who we want to support in developing their careers.” The first program runs from 18-21 October this year. “IMD ranks 1st in Europe and 4th overall worldwide.” Financial Times global survey of executive education providers 2004. |
