Matti Alahuhta has served as President and CEO of the  KONE Corporation since January 2005, and has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2003.

Dr Alahuhta earned an MSc and Doctorate in Technology from  the Helsinki University of Technology (Finland). He joined Nokia as a  Research Engineer in 1975, moved to Rank Xerox as Sales Director (1982-1984),  then returned to Nokia as a Sales Director for the Transmissions Systems  Business Unit at the time Nokia started its global expansion of its  telecommunications networks business. After different roles with increasing  responsibilities, in 1993 he was appointed President of Nokia  Telecommunications and Member of the Executive Board. In 1998, he was appointed  President of Nokia Mobile Phones and in 2004 he was appointed Executive Vice  President of the Nokia Group.

Dr Alahuhta is also Chairman of the Board of the  Aalto University Foundation and a board member of the BT Group and UPM Kymmene.  He has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the Tampere University of  Technology (Finland),  a Knight for the 1st Class of the Order of the White Rose of Finland, and  Commander of the White Rose of Finland badge of honour.
