| Vita | Suzanne de Janasz is Professor of Leadership and Organization Development at IMD. She has 20 years of experience teaching in industry and academia. Her research on mentoring, networking, work-family conflict and innovative pedagogy appears in academic and practitioner journals, and has been featured in keynote speeches, newspapers and radio programs. Her textbook Interpersonal Skills in Organizations is distributed worldwide and has been translated into multiple languages. The fourth edition was published in early 2011. The first edition of her Negotiation and Dispute Resolution textbook will be out in early 2012. Among her current research projects is a qualitative study of authenticity in the aftermath of job loss and an empirical analysis demonstrating how the use of virtual mentors — within and outside organizations — can facilitate career and personal development. In addition to several open programs at IMD, Professor de Janasz currently teaches in programs for such clients as ISS, Metso, Rio Tinto, Allianz Bank, Nestlé, Novartis, Crédit Suisse, FrieslandCampina, Rabobank, Borealis, Deloitte and WWF. Professor de Janasz is actively involved in the Academy of Management, currently serving as Past Chair for the Careers Division and previously serving in other leadership roles in the Academy and the Southern Management Association, as well as on the board of the Organizational Behavior Teaching Society (OBTS). In addition to various research awards, she also received the New Educator Award from the OBTS and the Jepson Award, both for teaching. The latter award funded her development of an innovative, service-learning course in which teams of students worked closely with non-profits to improve their effectiveness in meeting the needs of underserved populations. She also co-developed and currently teaches an entrepreneurship program for the UK charity HERA, which empowers and equips formerly trafficked women with the tools and resources to start their own businesses. Prior to joining IMD, Professor de Janasz taught at the Graduate School at the University of Mary Washington and at James Madison University, both in Virginia. She has been a visiting professor in Spain, Greece, and Poland —where she was the recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship at the University of Warsaw. Earlier in her career, Professor de Janasz was an organization development consultant for Hughes Aircraft as well as Lockheed Aeronautical Systems Company in California. She currently consults with and serves on boards of several non-profit organizations. Professor de Janasz earned her Ph.D. in management from Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California, where her dissertation focused on examining how individual differences in affect and cognition impact the degree to which individuals experience work-family conflict. She earned her MBA at USC and holds a Bachelors degree in music from the University of Miami in Florida. |
