Vita

Cyril Bouquet is Professor of Strategy at IMD. His major interest is the interface between organizational psychology, strategy and leadership. His teaching, research and consulting activities focus on leaders who are working with their teams to design winning competitive initiatives and action plans for running their business. He is currently examining these issues in large global organizations, where new types of competitive advantages are quickly emerging.

He has published on such specific issues as managing human attention in today’s organizations, the strategies by which low-power actors gain influence within the firm, and the corporate social responsibility of global entreprises. Cyril has published one book, Building Global Mindsets (2005), and several academic articles, which have appeared, among others, in the Academy of Management Journal, the Journal of International Business Studies, the Journal of Management, MIT Sloan Management Review, Long Range Planning and Business Strategy Review. He speaks regularly at business conferences in Canada, Europe, and North America.

Cyril Bouquet has designed and delivered many in-company programs for a variety of IMD clients including Veolia Environmental Services, an international company that provides services in every waste management business, Dong Energy of Denmark, Netapp, the proprietary computer storage and data management company, and SSl International plc, the British consumer brand company whose leading global brands include Durex and Dr. Scholl.

Professor Bouquet is an active case writer, with recent cases on Mars Central Europe: building an Innovation Ecosystem, and Global Growth at Irdeto (A): Overcoming the Mothership Syndrome. He provides consulting services, executive education, and expert evaluations to many large companies and research foundations, such as The Advanced Institute of Management Research, the Management Innovation Lab at London Business School, and International Management Australia. He has also advised governmental agencies, including the Social Sciences Research Council and Humanities Canada, the Ontario Graduate Scholarship Board (OGS), the Trade Facilitation Office Canada, and the Organization of American States.

Cyril Bouquet was previously an Associate Professor of Strategic Management at the Schulich School of Business, York University, Toronto, Canada. He obtained his PhD at the Richard Ivey School of Business, University of Western Ontario, specializing in global leadership and strategy.

His PhD dissertation earned some distinguished awards, including the 2004 Richard N. Farmer Award from the Academy of International Business, the leading academic society in the field. This award recognizes the world’s best doctoral thesis in the field of international business. He also won a 2002 Booz Hamilton Award recognizing the finest doctoral research paper presented at the annual meeting of the Strategic Management Society.
